About Dash Rip Rock

Dash Rip Rock is a New Orleans-based, country-infused, rockin' punkabilly band built around the songs of singer-guitarist Bill Davis. Renowned for tight musicianship and wild live shows, the band has amassed a loyal and eclectic following, whose wide tent somehow holds punk rockers, roots-rock aficionados, Norwegians & Japanese, and country fans alike.

In 1984, Davis founded Dash Rip Rock, and Louisiana cowpunk was born. They made their reputation by playing punk rock as if they were the Stray Cats, then belting out country standards as if they were the Sex Pistols. They've been a club and festival mainstay with their unique brand of roots punk ever since.

Dash Rip Rock has toured with the Cramps, Georgia Satellites, the DBs, Cowboy Mouth, and Rev. Horton Heat, and they've shared stages with The Ramones, Jerry Lee Lewis, No Doubt, the Circle Jerks, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, David Allan Coe, The Replacements, Lou Reed, Los Lobos, Social Distortion, and many others. Their 15 records have been hailed as country punk classics. They recently joined forces with Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label to release Hee Haw Hell and the critically-acclaimed Black Liquor and Wrongheaded.

The New York Times says Dash Rip Rock combines “fluency in American roots music with a robust dose of punk-rock spirit.” SPIN praises Dash Rip Rock as “undeniably the South’s greatest rock band.” In 2012, Dash Rip Rock was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

Dash Rip Rock tours extensively and has recently performed at SXSW in Austin, the Americana Music Festival Association in Nashville, and numerous roots listening rooms like B.B. Kings in NYC, as well as many other clubs and festivals — Blues City Cafe on Beale Street, Jelling Musik Festival and Smukfest In Denmark, New Orleans Voodoo Music Experience, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, to name just a few. In fact, DRR is one of the very few bands to have been invited to play the famous New Orleans Jazz Fest over twenty times.

For the ultimate wild-ass Southern punkabilly beer-soaked throw-down, look no further than the notorious and endlessly entertaining Dash Rip Rock.

Top Reviews for Dash Rip Rock

"Undeniably the South's greatest rock band." -- Spin

"Every bit the fire-breathing, fun-loving sons of the swamp they always have been." -- Houston Press

"Their manic stage presence and quirky music makes them sound like the Ramones playing Patsy Cline." -- USA Today

"Recently inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, the group combines fluency in American roots music with a robust dose of punk-rock spirit." -- New York Times

"For almost 30 years, New Orleans guitarist/songwriter/singer Bill Davis and a changing cast of bandmates have been rocking out as Dash Rip Rock. The band has outlasted the term 'cowpunk' and seems destined to survive 'alt-country'; they rock sufficiently hard that nobody’s going to try to file them under Americana. In fact, the rock part of Dash Rip Rock’s country rock has gotten harder as time has passed." -- Matthew Everett, Metropulse

"The time has come for the rest of the country to climb aboard and revel in DRR's barrage of crunchy guitars, toe-tappin' beats, and amusing lyrics." -- Billboard

"Them boys are wild. They got lots of energy." -- Jerry Lee Lewis
