About Deering and Down

With their sensual rockabilly style and Americana-meets-Stax sound, Deering & Down are mesmerizing. They meld Lahna Deering's amazing, sultry vocals with clang-and-twang guitar textures: one cup Stevie Nicks, one cup Ike Turner, and a gut-bucket of Memphis hepcat soul.

Had Lahna Deering and Rev Down sought the most expedient route to stardom, they never would have established headquarters in a small town in Alaska. Instead, they have dedicated years to expanding their horizons — from Alaska to Ireland to Florida to the Mississippi Delta — absorbing regional influences wherever they go. From the rainbow hues of the aurora borealis to the muddy browns and deep blues of Memphis (their home most of the year), they produce smoky Southern sounds in a glow of shimmering Northern light.

The band can perform as a trio, quartet, or larger.

Deering & Down is brand new but sounds so well-worn. Cool on the verge of red-hot. Book them now before they're so famous you can't afford them!

Top Reviews for Deering and Down

"Deering and Down brought a great flavor to our event. Very professional, super friendly, and the music is fantastic. I would love to hear them again." -- Monika Lantai, Canadian Consulate, Atlanta, GA

"Lahna Deering's got a voice like Loretta Lynn swallowed Rod Stewart. Rev Neil Down plays guitar like nobody you've ever heard." -- Memphis Flyer

"Deering and Down are the best one-two punch in the city." -- Memphis Commercial Appeal

"Her spectral soprano brings home innocence and kittenish sensuality, alienation and acceptance, hurt and healing. His guitar, based in the blues, is partial to trance-grooves and traveling where the album title says [Somewhere Out There]. Deering and Down write their own songs, mostly good ones, about floods, spirituality, and cryptic romance." -- Downbeat Magazine

“Weaving the two main streams of Memphis music — rockabilly and Southern soul — Deering & Down has created a hybrid sound that should transform them from local heroes to roots-rock stars.” – Geoffrey Himes, Washington Post
