About Star & Micey
It was a dark night, like many before it in Memphis. Joshua Andrew Cosby walked home from rehearsal with his guitar slung over his back. A homeless man flagged him down, not for money, but for a story. He explained to Cosby how he had written a song about his ex-wife Micey.
There, on that dimly lit street, an exchange occurred, two men playing each other songs of heartbreak and the ultimate sacrifice. Upon parting ways, this man said his name was Star.
That became the fixture for one of Memphis’ most inventive bands: Star & Micey. Its core members are listed as two brothers without the same last name, Geoff Smith and Joshua Cosby. It was merely coincidence that Cosby later met Nick Redmond at a local pub and began a relationship based on music and, above all, brotherhood.
Star & Micey’s self-titled debut album featured a revolving door of fantastic musicians including Luther Dickinson (The Black Crowes, North Mississippi All-Stars), Jody Stephens (Big Star), and Rick Steff (Cat Power, Lucero), just to name a few. Their follow-up release, Get 'Em Next Time, is propelling the guys around the country, playing festivals and clubs to ever-growing crowds.
In addition to being featured on NPR's World Cafe, Star & Micey was recently named #1 on Paste Magazine's "12 Tennessee Bands You Must Listen to Now!"
